This weekend we have been scrambling through AJAXWorld, SOA World, and the Virtualization Conference dates and our dear friend Marc Fleury's calendar to be able announce him as a keynote speaker at one of next year's hottest technology events. Whether he is able to do the March keynote or the June, AJAXWorld delegates will meet Appcelerator, a rich internet applications and SOA start-up, and this company's presence at the upcoming 2008 series of SYS-CON events.
The first one of the upcoming SYS-CON conferences is AJAXWorld Conference & Expo 2008 East, which will take place March 18-20, in New York City. Last year more than 70 companies sponsored it, including 3Tera, Addison-Wesley, Adobe, Apress, Backbase, Bindows, Conference Guru, Cynergy Systems, Dynamic Toolbar, Extension Media, Farata Systems, Flash Goddess, FrogLogic, GoingToMeet.com, Google, Helmi Technologies, IBM, ICEsoft, ILOG, IT Mill, Ittoolbox, JackBe, JetBrains, Kaazing, Krugle, Laszlo Systems, Lightstreamer, Manning Publications, Methods & Tools, Microsoft, Nexaweb, OpenSpot, OpSource, Oracle, Parasoft, Passport Corporation, PushToTest, Quasar Technologies, Rearden Commerce, Servoy, SmartClient / Isomorphic Software, SnapLogic, Sun Microsystems, TechTracker Media, Tele Atlas, The Thomson Corporation, ThinWire, TIBCO Software, TileStack, Universal Mind, Vertex Logic, Web Spiders, and Webtide.
Google's Knol, Wikipedia, and My Next Door Neighbour Wayne
The weather is just perfect today, not humid and not hot. Usually there are only two maybe three people on the island, inluding myself. Six people create a traffic jam :-) Seventh hole on the golf course is taking a rest today with wild turkeys, but always ready for Tiger's next visit. My next door neighbour Wayne, -whom I share the most beautiful sunset on the entire planet- fell in love with Greg Norman's boat last summer and bought it for $70m. How would I know that if he weren't my neighbour? Wikipedia of course. So what are the chances that I will find Wayne and most of my other neighbours on the island on Google's Knol and when? I personally think Knol is not likely to happen in our life time... 数据挖掘实验室
AJAX, SOA, Virtualization, and the "Soup Nazi"
Yesterday I received the cockiest, dumbest, and the most disrespectful email of the decade from a little schmuck who basically said "you took my press release, and published it as news but changed its title, you must rewrite the story exactly how I want to see it immediately, or else." Why? Because this little schmuck thinks he had an explosive growth in his business. He now has almost $200k in his pocket, which he may consider to spend a thousand dollars or two, only if I listen to him very carefully and do as he says.
In the past 15 years, I endorsed the technologies and admired the management teams of many companies; starting with Powersoft, then Allaire, Macromedia, JBoss, and countless others. I saw them in their happy days of IPOs, or even happier days of acquisitions. Today, I am still proud to endorse many emerging companies.
On the other hand, it is still possible to find cocky little schmucks who think they accomplished something with their lives because they peddled a few consulting gigs with the help of their media partners. But once they cross the line, there is no saving these idiots. I usually suggest them to read this popular industry blog and watch their self destruction, since this is not the first time we are watching this movie.
I do, however, remember the famous "soup nazi" in Seinfeld and feel like saying "no more soup for you" as I move my attention to those companies who do deserve a strong support of their people as much as their technology.
