Hi,
I′m an a student of BE(IT) currently doing internship at Unisys in
Knowledge Management sector. I wish to make a career in BI and have
about 2-3 months in hand before I become a graduate.
Now, I am looking for suggestions on what should I do to make a career
in BI. I tried installing couple of softwares on my computer and can′t
really make out because I guess one needs an operational database,
flat files, etc that is generally available only with an organization.
I want to decorate my resume with some BI experience/awareness before
I graduate.
Please pour in your suggestions.

Yes, this is really a great area. I would suggest you to be very
strong in the area. For this, i suggest you to go for M.S/Ph.D in this
areas. Then , you will a great career in BI. It is very difficult for the
fresher to get a job in BI area. 数据挖掘研究院
Indeed thats a good suggestion and I have pondered hard on it.
Unfortunately, I think hardly any good universities in India offer
such courses. IN US there are nice courses on MIS and Information Mgt
but quite expensive.
If you any good courses in India or abroad but affordable, please let
me know.
I don′t think you can really learn BI in university courses. I
think there are three good roads to a BI career:
1) Get a business degree, perhaps an MBA or IT degree, and get a job as a
management consultant with/within an organization that focuses on and
trains their employees in BI.
2) Get a job as an application- or database- or interface- developer with
a company with BI projects.
3) Get an accounting, finance, or sales/marketing/CRM/etc. analyst job and
start with BI as an end user.

My internship at Unisys is the management team and perhaps
contunuing with them shall be the best idea.
